Fossil Wood, also known at petrified wood is from the Jurassic period 175 million year ago. It is ancient wood that has had its organic material gradually replaced as it decays. Structure is preserved but the wood fibers slowly transform into stone. Two minerals typically involved in displacement are agate & quartz. Pigment is usually earthy colours.
